Default flourocarbon line or any other???

I'm about to re-spool all my spinning reels and am probably a little overdue. Anyway, I'm thinking of using flouro exclusively on all of them (between 4-10 lb test depending on the reel). Anyone have any comments on flouro- or any other particular make of line??? I would think that it has advantages over mono (I know it does in some fly fishing applications) and can't think of anything negative. Wonder if theadvantage is worth difference in price???

Here is my opinion on line. Take it or leave it.

Use monofilament on spools. Buy what is on sale. Technology has come along so that nearly all name brand lines will be very effective with their poundage. If your looking for High-Vis I really like Suffix in Bright Green, Red, and they might even make Orange.

Fluorocarbon - I see no use for this bass/panfishing. I have tried it bass fishing and get no less strikes on monofilament. TROUT/STEELHEAD on the other hand, are very particular and picky. I will always use a fluorocarbon leader for this and usually one spool will last me all season due to the fact I only use 4 foot at a time. I buy many different poundages due to the clarity of water.

So, is the adavantage worth the price difference?

Yes and no, because of my method of use. I only use a spool a season, but the fish don't know any difference and it keeps money in my pocket.

personally i dont like floro...

ive given vanish a couple tries...

and use frog hair on my fly rod...

the frog hair isnt bad but for the price of it, it better not be! lol...

i find both to be weak..especially after they been fished a little while...both seem to be terrible in the abrasion department...which leads to further weakness.

the frog hair isnt nearly as bad, but its not as good as mono IMO...but, it really is dang near invisible...do i notice more fish? i dont think so...

i hoped they fixed vanish as i do alot of trout fishing and they can be very spooky fish...but i bought another spool last year...biggest mistake ever! lost my first golden rainbow trout...20 or so incher...should never lost it..but i watched the line break about a foot or so above my lure...

just seems to get real weak once its been in the water a short while...knot strength is somewhat poor as well...im done with the stuff personally...still playing with the frog hair...it seems to be much better than vansh but still lacks in the abraision dept IMO...

Yes very similar.

Due to the fact that all of my trout/steelhead fishing is done in moving current, I will always use a barrel/tri-swivel anyway to prevent line twist.

Thus, main line meets barrel swivel. Barrel swivel meets fluorocarbon leader.

Unless you have 12 rods to fool with..I'd leave Flourocarbon alone..I have 10 rods..so one has FLourocarbon on it..I've tried 2 kinds..They bothstink..The line wants to spring off the spool.

For heavy strurcture..pitching and flipping I use Power Pro 20 pound test.

All others are Trilene CLear.

Thanks for the responses.

I've mostly used Stren low vis green in the past and it has worked well. Probably souldn't try to fix something that wasn't broken...just wondered if there were any advantages that i wasn't taking advantage of and knew you guys would know.

Stren also has a product line called "magnathin" or something. Supposed to be smaller diameter yet same poundage...sounds good if it works.

Ok, I use no Flourp, except for leaders when carolina rigging or if i feel the fish are going to be that picky. I use braid and mono (3 kinds) Judging by what your are saying, mono would be better for you and I would go with one of these three depending on what you want. Vanish is the best mono for getting fish to bite better in clear water and is fairly tough, but it has cost me a handful of fish over 8 pounds. Sufix is the line I use most now. It is really tough, and dissapers fairly well in clear water, the castability is great, I have yet to lose a fish from the line just breaking. Yo-zuri hybrid is another chocie I like, but I dont like the way it looks in clear water. It is extremely tough, I just seem to lose bites and size when I fished it. Those are my suggestions, but go with whatever works for you.

One thing our school does religiusly is summarize..so let me summarize.

[8D]Unless you have money to throw away..leave the flourocarbon on the shelf..
Buckhunter is corect..all mono will twist eventually..you may wantto use a barrel swivel.
Power Pro has no twist/ memory same thing.. but cost about 10.00 a fill up..great on baitcasters..spinning you will lose a little on casting distance..strong stuff.my favorite line over all..PanfishI go with Trilene..Smooth casting

I'm a fan of Stren but I did not like the magnathin line. It is very weak compared to original stren. As far as flouro goes I use it and like it but it doesn't last long, its not very abrasion resistant at all. Atleast not the Vanish. I have more success with it over mono fishing walleyes, but if you fish all day long, its usually done for at the end of the day.
