Default ANY LAKE ERIE DO IT YOUR SELFERS???

Just wondering if anyone fishes Lake Erie with out a charter boat?
I' ve wanted to fish Erie for some time but can never find enough people to put
together a trip.
I have a 17 ft boat, is that too small??? Do you have to travel very far, thus needing a large boat?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

What Size Motor do you have on it? The Water on Erie can get bad fairly quick so watch the news from some major city near the lake, they will tell you what the weather and water is supposed to be like for the next few days.
Where are you launching from? What state? Last time I went up we took our old 21' with a 150hp we used to go a few miles out and Troll channels, they were around 20' to 40' or so deep.

What do you want to fish for. I live in Erie and fish a lot. Your 17 footer will be fine for perch but just make sure the lake is flat. Perch fishing is great on Lake Erie! We also have probably the best smallmouth and walleye fishing in the country. We also have a lot of steelhead. Dont know if you boat will work for trolling for walleye and such but you can fish perch from it.

If your outboard is big enough(we use a 19 foot ranger with a 175 merc) you should be ok just watch the weather, as far as how to and where to most of my experience is jigging on and near the mouth of the det river, i would maybe suggest going to saginaw bay (still have to watch the weather and troll with planer boards and hot n tots (black gold and orange gold are good colors) near charity islands. hopefully you get some more info and good luck!
