Use a light or UL action rod from 5 to 6 1/2 feet...

Use 4 or 6 lb. test mono...

Inline spinners like Mepps, Rooster tail , CP Swing and others work well in1/16 to 1/4 oz.weights, depending on the depth of the water and current...

Other lures that work well are small spoons and small minnow imitating plugs like rapalas and PINS minnows...

Cast upstream or quartering upstream and retrieve just fast enough so that the lure flutters along the bottom...The lure should be "fluttering" as it drifts with the current, not spinning wildly...

If you want to use bait, tie a single hook directly to the mono...Size of the bait determines hook size.. I use a #6 baitholder with whole crawlers, but with smaller baits such as redworms , eggs or waxworms, a # 8 or # 10 would be better...

This is important...Pinch just enough split shot about 6" above the hook so that the bait drifts naturally along the bottom...You may have to adjust the amount of weight from pool to pool, according to the current...Cast the bait upstream of places you expect trout to lie, and let it drift back along the bottom... The bait should be just rolling along the bottomat the same rate of the current..That's the key, to get a natural drift..

Pygmy pretty much nailed it!!!

There is only a few small suggestions that I will give you as a newbie. There is stuff called Powerbait, it is probably the most simple bait for beginners to use with good results until you get the drift of trout fishing. If you have never been on the stream that is my suggestion, get some powerbait and size #14 treble hooks and size b-bb split shot and just roll a ball on and cast upstream and just examine what others on the stream are doing with there spinners, jigs, bait, etc...! It will get you started???

I am assuming this is for stocked trout?????

There is way too much to stream fishing to put in words here, it just takes experience on the stream but between what little Pygmy and myself just told you that should catch ya a few trout??

Pygmy has said alot about it though here they make 1 and 2 blade trout spinners that you can easily snap on a snelled hook. Sometimes realing a blade in fairly quick will also get them to bite though. It depends on the time of year and water temp as well. A small super duper or a cast master with a small piece of worm attached to it will work pretty good to. In the early part of the season I like to just use a plain ol hook and split shot. No swivel or nothing that can shine to bright as it can scare them as well. Just drift the hook down stream around rocks and the like with a small peice of a nightcrawler about an inch long will do the trick. Good Luck and catch a good feed of trout..
