Most of you may already know this but if the water you are fishing on has low structure .. fish without a bobber..Once I had drifted 2 rods with a bobber and 2 rods without a bobber..The rods without a bobber out fished bobber rods 3 to 1..This is best with a 5-10 MPH wind.. I simply put a split shot about 8 inches above the minnow and cast behind me letting the wind move me slowly..The rods will bend when you get a hit and the rest is up to you..
I fish for bluegill and red- ears like this as well...Fact, I only use a bobber when there is heavy structure..
I also bass fish like this alot..Instead of using a bullet sinker.I use a round BB split shot..The worm swims slower and there is no need for a toothpick peg. AND..round split shots range from tiny to bigger than a 1/4 ounce for serious thick stuff. You can spray paintthe split shots as well .AND..split shots are usally around 50 for 1.00.
Here's my son reeling one in with his 101 Garcia..on a light Lightning Rod.This was last winter..we got 65 bass here in 2 days. This one was 5pounds .4ounces.
