OK..smoking my first turkey today..

I'll keep you all updates today with picks..

Put bird in the smoker at 6:40 AM.. Coals were hot and water was hot.There are also 5 chicken quarters.

the wood is wine sap apple wood from my dad's trees in Maryland. The Kitty Cafe is a shelter I built fo rmy wife. She feeds the stray cats .We also trap them and get them shots and fixed..The cafe is stuffed with straw to keep them warm.

Just came home from playing tennis..
Had to put a fresh batch of coals on at 9:57
My son won by the way..

Well..[&o]the coals were 90 per cent burned out..Temp dropped to about 190..

I removed the coal pan..refilled and lit them outside of the cooker..After the fluid burned off and the coals started burning I stuck the coal pan back in..[:-]The turkey has a nice color..Apple wood is considered a mild smoke..

PS in responce to the reply,,my gun is patterend to smoke a gobbler..I just mounted the Gobble Dots on ole Betsy..but I'll have to wait till April . My shot group at 30 yds is about 100 pellets to the head..I nearly broke my middle finger shooting 3 1/2 mags...it literally brought be from the kneeling position to the flat on my back position..love that ole 870 Remington.[8D]
