RE: What's everyones biggest crappie ever..
Biggest was ice fishing on brand new ice without any snow. I was on a pretty small pond and was pulling some bluegills on 3 pound test micro rigs. On the slow drop I suddenly had a pause and immediately thought of crappie but dismissed it because I didn't think there were any in the pond. I set the hook and saw the flash just under the ice. My heart skipped a beat when I saw what it was and had a hard time getting it up through the hole. I finally got it up and it was 15 1/2 inches and went 1.77 pounds. I caught another on the next 7 drops then ripped one and it was done. They were all over 1 1/2 pounds and were all over 14". What a day. My best in numbers was before the limits were placed here in Vermont. My cousin and I were commercial fishing out of a boat in the spring on Lake Bomoseen in Vermont for gills and crappie and we really got into old paper mouth. Sold $432 dollars worth after fishing for a day and a half. Putting limits on them was the best thing Vt ever did. Now we can only catch 25 per day but can still sell them for $2.50 per pound live weight.
