I think it' s a personal preference as to what feel you like. About the best I' ve found would be 5' 6" medium action. It has a blend of flick and stiffness that just feels great in the hand. Hain' t bought one of those yet, but it' s on the list. It' d be a good idea to go to a pro shop and flick ' em around a little and see if you like how it handles. If it isn' t comfortable for you then you probably won' t fish well with it.

I think it also depends on the type of fishing you do most. For instance, if you do a lot of flipping/pitching with jigs & soft plastics then a longer, heavier action rod is probably best. It' s hard to cast something like a crankbait very far with one of these but that' s not what they' re made for. If you fish a lot of crankbaits or spinnerbaits then you would want something with a little more action in the tip. This allows you to cast a little further and gives the bait a little more action and you a little more feel.
I have several rod & reel combos but my two favorites are a 7' heavy action graphite rod w/ quantum baitcast reel for jigs & soft plastics, and a 7' medium-heavy action fiberglass rod w/ quantum baitcast reel that has great tip action for fishing spinner baits and also has a stiff enough backbone that it' s okay for soft plastics. If I could only take one combo with me it would be the second one.

If I was able to only have one rod I would want a 6 1/2 ft rod with medium action. I like to fish soft plastics, and a 6 1/2 rod is the minimum for this in my book, but you are also able to fish spinnerbaits and crankbaits.
