Default Standard Gear Ratio ?

I was just wondering if there was a standard gear ratio for certain types of fishing, or is it just a personal choice? Like 5:0.1 for crankbaits, 7:0.1 for buzzbaits, ? for soft plastics, ? for jerkbaits, etc. etc. etc. just curious. Thanks Joe

i would say its gonna be personel choice, i know i like the really slow reels 3.8:1 for big deep diving crankbaits, the rest of the time i use 5.3:1 reels, i have tried a fewin the 6:1 area but for me the 5.3:1 is about ideal

it might be handy to have a high speed reel for buzzing, and it also gets the line/bait back in a little quicker on a dead cast

good luck

Most of mine are in the 6.3:1 ratio, i so use a few different reel for these applications. i use a 7.0:1 for my rattle traps, 5.3:1 for both of my cranking rods and i also have a 5.3:1 for one of my spinner bait. So out of 17 bc setup's 12 are 6.3:1, but it is all what suits you

Retrieve ratio depends on the type of fishing I do. Panfish and cats? slower retrieve will be fine because they swim slower. Bass or most saltwater fish? A fast retrieve.

If the fish is hooked and he is swimming towards you, you must reel faster than he can swim.
