Default FORT PECK ICE OUT PIKE?

Can anyone tell me about ice out fishing for pike. How much open water is needed, or does it last till most of the ice is gone.

You don' t need much open water as long as you access it. Last year I fished pike in a open water patch from shore and the opening was I would guess 20 yards wide by about 30 yards long and that' s all that was needed. Being pike are early to spawn the ice out bite does last till all the ice is gone adn then some.

Could someone please explain what " ice out" means. Does it mean that the ice along shore has melted out a ways? Thanks. critch

I think that' s what it means. I hope so anyway otherwise I just posted somthing totally off the wall. My best definiton would be not completely froze over any more yet not fully open or unthawed. I guess.
