Default Let's Talk Line...

Ok, I have decided that after ready through many of my magazines, both recent and older, and watching way too many fishing shows that I need to rethink my fishing line choices. I have always used Triline XL on most of my rods. Recently I have also started using Black Widow (if you haven't heard of it - find it and try it!) but I think that I wan't to try some of these other new lines out there. So I am looking for recommendations on a good all around line for my uses. I fish Northern waters, all levels of water clarity and all kinds of lure/bait setups. What are some lines that ya'll have had very good luck with?

I personally hate the sound of braided line being reeled in. I use Trilene XL/XT depending on the situation. I do have 1 rod rigged with 10/50 braided line for flipping jigs in very nasty cover but even then I sometimes just use 14lb line and live with the occasional lost bass. Call me old fashioned but I like the thrill of catching big bass on light line. After all its no fun just horsing in the big ones!

Totally agree, I almost exclusively fish with ultralight tackle. I do use a couple medium and medium light rods, but the heaviest line I have on any of my "everyday" rods is 8lb, and that's only because I do hook into some monster pike and catfish from time to time. I have a couple poles rigged up for Lake Michigan that have 14lb, and that's the heaviest I use period.

But I am still interested in maybe trying out some of the new lines, maybe the new fluro carbons? Anybody tried any of these? Are they worth their price in your opinion?
