Default Walleye/northern fishin tips

I live in Buffalo,MN and around here the lakes are full of cats, carp, and bullheads. I am tired of catching these fish. I normaly fish at night with a slip bobber and a minnow. I have no luck fishin dare devils, rapalas, or jigs maybe i don't know how to fish them. I have 2 goals this summer catch at least a 5-10 pound walleye and northern.. Could anybody give me some tips? i fish manly from shore or a public dock

I still can't figure out why they call the traps "Live Traps". All the Racoon and Possum that I catch in mine never come out that way.

I believe that's mostly your problem. The pike and walleye are further out or in areas you probably wouldn't have access to unless ya had a boat. Walleye like deep water. Oops, I see you were already using deep water lures and stuff.

You need to get out there. If ya don't want a boat, buy an 11 foot rod.

I've had alot of luck catching walleye on nothing but a black & white 'Toxic' brand jig. The most important thing is getting your timing and rhythm right, if you can watch someone who catches alot of fish on jigs, and mimic their style and timing, that the bes way to learn. Lastly, getting yourself where with fish are is 80% of the game, This is hard working from shore andwithout a fishfinder, but if you can luck into a hole, you should try that place frequently.

Yep youll have the best luck catching them on the dropoffs and to get to them you need yourself a boat. But what i would recommend if your from shore is minnow imitaion lures work good, and topwater imitation lures work good for pike. Or set a smelt or equivalent too, about a foot off bottom, and try to make it so it will sit horizontally. The more natural the presentation the better. But during summer i know eyes like to go as deep as they can, same with pike but you will still find them shallow.

Jigs, shiner minnows, and a rocky bottom.

Good luck with fishing from shore. As far as fishing deep, well that depends upon where and when this summer. After the opener I would aim for 12-20 ft breaks witha Jig and a shinner. June I am in 4 ft after dark with Raps. Aug. I am in 30-50 ft crawler or leach rigs and Sep I am back in the bow stand.
