Default More Rainbows on the Fly

Got out today and managed to haul a few in. Morning was slow we caught 2 fish and oddly enough both were snagged, from then on good hook sets. Landed about 10 fish(brown, rainbow trout and a rocky mountain whitefish), my buddy caught two silver browns, really cool looking, had the colors of a rainbow, but the body and halo marking of a brown. All except one were caught on SJW, and the other on a Hare's Ear.

Haha and yes im showing my face some of you may reconize me, was under a different alias on this. forum

And there he is! We have missed ya! MAn that is pure beauty that you can go and catch that big of trout. We only have about 10" skimpy planters in our rivers, until the steelhead run. Then you are elbow to elbow in guys that disrespect the river.

AWESOME pictures!

Congrats again on some nice open waterfishing!!! Here there is no open water fishing until april first, and most of our trout run smaller as they are native brookies. Occasionaly we will get a few big ones though. Congrats again..

Id love to go for some steelhead, now those are some big fish, but ill stick with the Bow river, lots of big fish in there and soo many different species, never know whats gunna be on the end of your line. The main species in the Bow river are rainbow, brown trout and rocky mountain whitefish, but there is also, brookies, cutthroat, bull, lake(as odd as that sounds yes there are lake trout in the river), pike, perch, sturgeon, burbot(eelpout, lawyer),lake whitefish, walleye, and of course suckers, although alot of those are a very sighting they are in there.

TS...Your river has an amazingly diverse fishery... You're indeed lucky to live near enough to it to fish it regularly...

Those steelheads ARE a blast.... Imagine hooking up with a 12 or 15 pound rainbow in close quarters on a small stream on a 5 weight flyrod....

Gives a whole new meaning to the expression" a**holes and elbows"........

Yeah ive heard alot about the steelhead runs and i know before i expire ill be makin out east to fish a run of them. Closest ive had to an experience like that is fishing for 20+" bull trout in 4 foot wide mountain streams, thats fun as hell and too boot there are soo many creeks its rare you see another person in a year on that same creek as you.

I'm hoping to get on the creek soon...According to some of the fishing websites, the steeliesare in thick on the lake Erie Streams right now...It's about a 3 hour drive from my home to Lake Erie... Hoping to set up a 2 or 3 day trip with a couple of buddies...

Unfortunately, SOLTITUDE is something you seldom experience on eastern steelhead streams...

FORTUNATELY , there are some unstocked tributaries where I can fish for wild brown and brook trout and seldom see another fisherman...Lots of fish in the 12" to 18" range and an occasional lunker 20" or over.... They are small, brush choked creeks, however, and tough to fly fish...Night crawlers work best...

Maybe some day we could do a swap trip...Besides fishing, I have some good hunting for whitetails and turkeys...

Me and a few buddys have planned a trip to lake that opens on Apr 1, on average you will catch over 30 rainbows over 18" in a day, been some 26" fish pulled out of there. It about a 3 hour drive for me as well, just before the alberta/saskatchewan boarder.

Yeah most of the streams i fish i either got bushs on one side or a cliff on the other so makes it a lil challenging but worth it in the end especially when i hook into a big fish and i dont know what it is untill i get it in close or its jumps, i love the variety in many of the streams i fish. And the solitude is wicked, gets a little gamey when i fish the Bow here in the city, but a 10 min drive and im back to solitude and holes with little to no fishing pressure, lots of lazy fishermen out there not willing to put the leg work into finding good holes.

Yeah ive got a great spot for moose and elk, we pass on any bull moose that is under 40". Elk well when they are in there, there are alot but last year was bad, increase in cougar population held the elk back from moving down from the mountains to the foothills where i hunt.
