those are some nice Blue gills. I've neve heard of smelt before, how to you cook them? Are they pretty good?

Smelt are very tasty. Super easy to clean, just like a trout. Cut the head off and make a single cut along the stomach. Insides pull out easy and you have a cleaned fish. We deep fry them in flour, yummmm. Going this Saturday and they are hitting good. we should come home with a good 5 gallon pale full.

Congrats on the great fishing, we catch smelts threw the ice here as well, both fresh and salt water ones. For those that have never fished for smelts threw the ice on salt water it's alot of fun. The only nervous part is when the tide comes in or out and the ice goes up and down with it. We are only allowed 2 quarts here though....[:'(]
