Default good day icefishing

Got some good burbot action out at gull today. Me and my dad each got our limit of burbs and my dad landed about a 6 pound pike.

So heres a group pic. These were my first ever burbot and I managed to land 8. The biggest burbot I caught was around 6 pounds which is probally pretty average and the rest were 5 and up. The pike was 6.1 pounds and 30 inches

How does burbot meat compare to say walleye? Those are some weird looking fish!

They looks just like a blackfish ( bowfin ) to me that have a different color pattern on them. Nice catch, and if it is anything like bowfin, it takes a native country woman that has a secret recipe to cook it right and scrumdidlyumptious, if not it tastes absolutely horrible.

Congrats to you!!!Those things you call burbots are what we call cusk.. and yes they are great eating but a mess to fillet.. Great in a chowder or deep fried they are a great tasting fish most anyway you want to cook them.. We have no limit on them here and you are allowed to night fish them..

Thanks for the comments. The meat is amazing. A burbot is pretty much a fresh water cod so the meat is just like fish sticks

Not really and they sell alot of saltwater cusk here, but they do not taste nearly as good as freshwater cusk..
