I've had a similiar side view one..I really didn't use the side view alot..

I simply used mine for
a. Finding crappie

b. Reading underwater structure and depth..
c. finding suspended fish..which is certainly questionable.

I went through 2 last year..and Walmart took them both back..The Humminbird had no box or receipt..just a unit stuffed in a gallon bag.[&:]

The Hummingbird was my fault ..I pinched the wire going to the transducer causing a short..if I get another it will be a Hummingbird.

The Eagle..I honestly don't know..it just went haywire.

I know the water very good where I fish or I would buy another fish finder..

I also had a side depth finder from Cabelas..portable...I had lots of problems with the transducer getting dirty.

the side imaging units are AWESOME!!!! I've got the new 10.4" on order (to the tune of $2900[:@]) for the console of my boat. You will need to be able to go 3 - 5 mph for it to work right, and you'll need to mount the transducer on a jackplate, or motor, install a switch, then another transducer inside the hull to use it at full speed.

I'm waiting to hear how the Hummingbird Fishin' Buddies will be when they come out this month. I'm hoping the side sonar will work ice fishing. I'll probably wait till I start hearing the reviews on it as others start buying them.
