That all depends on whether or not you think you will be doing a lot of fishing. If you are then don't buy something cheap because it'll crap out on you. You can't go wrong with anything made by Abu Garcia. If you are just going to novice it up and fish occasionally then start with a zebco on an ugly stick and then should you decide to get serious start the soending spree. Hope this helps.

Also helps to know how old you are. Young ones will do well to start with a zebco...

Hmm, well first indiana is right about what he said about the abu or zebco, go on that. As for the second question, u should probly not use baitcast for a while. but spinning would probly work good.

Depends on how much money you want to spend..

Walmart has everything from 19.94 to over 300,00

I'd diffently go open faced spincaster..and a 6 foot to 7 foot medium rod. If your going to be fishing around rocks, logs or thick vegetation I'd buy a spool of 20 pound Power Pro line..It cost about 13,00 for a spool.

If you can handle the money...I'd go with a 6 foot Lightning Rod medium spinning about 30.00
and a Abu Garcia Spinning reel Model C 103..I got one...it's nice and comes with an extra spool. 35.00

Also,welcome to the freshwater site.

Jeremy,I would also recommend you to get a Zebco 33 reel with
a zebco rod combination as that would be a good entry level setup.
If you can buy them seperate get the zebco reel and then get a nice
6 foot Berkley medium action Lightening Rod or the Ugly Stick as already
recommended.Make sure to use some good 10 pound berkley line and
be sure your drag is set light enough so your line wont break when you
hook a fish.Walmart should have all the things I am talking about to help
get you started for a reasonable price.Any more questions there are good
people here to help you out.Good Luck! Mike

Well they are both the same except the 300 is more heavy duty but not by much. What type of fish do you wanna catch?
