Default Need some advice from you pro bass guys.

So i was out in British Columbia visiting some family and they had a few lakes with some really nice smallies and carp. I have never fished for smallies or carp before cause we dont have them here in Alberta. I was out and i tried everything on them from bait such as worms, mealworms, eggs, powerbait and i got nothing. So i tried some spinners and spoons and still nothing. I tried jigging with soft plastics i was even able to skip some frogs along the top of some lillys where there were frogs and bass takin them and of the two days i was fishing i didnt even get a single hit. Just wonderin what i may have been doin wrong.

Oh and another thing. Is it normal to see carp jumping just like a trout or bass, cause i was seeing TONS of them gettin some major air and i was wondering if this is normal.

the carp jumping is definitly normal. as for the smallmouths, plastic grubs, tubes, spinnerbaits, evne topwaters early in the morning. If worse comes to worse, a live crawfish or minnow will kill them.

Many bass are still on nests and are often tight-lipped unless you land a jig right in the nest. Tubes and twisters in brown, black, or white are very good right now fished slowly on the bottom.

Lethal... Yes, it is normal to see carp jumping, ESPECIALLY in the spring while they are spawning... They also jump quite frequently other times of the year..They just seem to enjoy doing it...

Carp feed mostly on bottom plants and invertebrates...One sure way to catch them is to use canned, whole kernel corn...Open up a can and CHUM or bait an area by throwing out a few handfulls of corn...Then bait a # 6 or # 8 hook with as much corn as it will hold ( be sure the hook point is covered) and sit back on the bank, prop your rod on a crotched stick and open a beer... Use as little weight as necessary to keep the bait lying stationary on the bottom...Stay within easy reach of your rod, because when a carp inhales the corn and takes off, he'll drag your rod right into the lake, or river....

Smallmouths usually respond quite well to fairly small jigheads with 3 or 4 inch twister grubs...Neutral colors such as motor oil or pumpkinseed imitate the crayfish that smallies favor as forage.. Other good lures are minnow imitating plugs such as Rapalas or crayfish imtitating crankbaits...

Keep after them.. Both carp and smallmouths are formidable fighters...Smallmouths, IMHO, are also very good to eat... Good luck...
