Default Windy and choppy water for bass?

What do I throw when it's real choppy and windy? I was out today attempting to fish, and all of a sudden the wind picked up and the water go real rough and I was stumped.

What I wopuld do is try and find a cove that is shelterd somewhat from the wind. If not luck I would start throwing out a few daredevils, and other lures of this type. Something I can sink down just below the waves. If that doesn't work i would try to find a spot I can drift with a leadhead on so I can fish the bottom. If that doesn't work i would put on a streamer or live bait and troll along slowly. Good Luck.

Dairy since you are fishing from the bank its gonna be a little difficult to find shelter from the wind. Some lures are def. harder to use in the wind. Things such as topwater and soft plastics such as texas rigged worms are particularly more difficult to fish on real windy days. What I usually do when it gets windy is throw lures such as crankbaits and spinnerbaits. In other words lures that are constantly moving and theres constant tension on the line. These lures are much easier to fish in the wind, ecspecially for a beginner. If you must use plastics about the best thing you can do is add a larger weight to help you get the worm to the bottom and keep the wind from blowing your line and keeping your worm from making contact with the bottom. Hope this helps a little. I may have just confused you evenmore.[8D]If so i'm sorry.

My favorite lure on windy days is a lipless crankbait. Easy to through in the wind and bass love to hit them.

Sorry I didn't realize he was only fishing from the bank, But the daredevil ( red and white with the copper back ) is an all time favorite up here. Almost any kind of lure you can cast out there that will stay below the waves normally would work.

DK,

From the Shore Line in the wind - Hummm - let me look here.

Might want to throw a Johnson Spoon in silver or gold.Very weedless good action. Can add a trailer as a teaser.A good bait that can be worked shallow or twitched/jerked on bottom.

Buzz baits work well if wind isn't too bad.If you have a storm front coming in with some 15+- mph winds a buzz bait, prop bait or sputter bait can supply some great action.

I would also try a Rapala Shad Rap if you have shad in your waters.A tough one to even find around here as everybody buys em up in the Spring.

Good Luck

carolina rig, spinnerbaits, crankbaits. boat or not, fish where the wind is blowing hard into the shore - baitfish will feed on the planton stirred up, and bass will be chasing those baitfish.

Amen Josh...I've gotten some goo dfish in the wind. We've had wind advisory all week down here in Florida. Like you said..I cast that rubber worm right into the wind and work that bad boy gently to th eshoreline..

DK,
I never got my first boat till I was 30 some years old. I caught a lot of fish off the sure..One advantage you have...you can cover the area better. I use to cast take 3 steps to the left..cast again ..etc .etc.. eventually you'll learn that lake really good.

Its funny you should say that. I fish in a pond that has no shad but a shad rap is one of the more productive lures for the bass. I fact that smaller of my 2 bass for the tournament was caught in a pond with no shad on a shad rap!
