Default fishing frogs

indianahunters post got me thinking....my favorite piece of water has a TON of frogs and I often find bass up close to the bank feeding on these.

I have never fished a frog before and don't really know even how to hook it or fish it. I know a popular way is on top, but is that the only effective method? can it be split shot or texas rigged?

I have never fished frogs any other way but topwater. I solely use Spro Frogs (yes they are more expensive but they are excellent quality) in natural colorings. The way I fish said frog is by casting them up onto the bank or right into the shallows onto scum or lilly pads depending on the lake and hopping them back across the water slowly. I would say the biggest key is when you hop it off the scum into a hole make sure you pause for a few seconds. Gives the bass underneath a chance to make up their minds and come in for a bite. Also as in all lures vary your speed and presentation to see what they want that day. I have had days where inching them across the surface worked best and days where I could basically reel them across the surface like a buzzbait. Hope this helps.. frogs are probably my favorite lure to fish period.

Like Indianahunter said I have never fished a frog any other way than on top. However, I actually like the soft plastics frog baits better than the scum frog or the spro frogs. Here are a few of my favorites. I will give you one piece of advice. If you useanyof the soft plasticfrogs make sure you buy the frog hooks that screw into the head of the frog. They increase the life of the frogs trememdously. Before I tried the frog hooks I was only catching one fish per frog and it would be tore up and I would have to replace it. With the frog hooks you can catch 3 or 4 fish per frog.

Mans Hardnose swim toad: Green pumpkin/chartreuse is my favorite color.

How big are those swimming frogs? I have always thought about trying them but the wholeback side of the hook hanging below the frog would make for some problems dragging it over scum wouldn't it?

also dont get a 2 colored one the red on top and green on bottom. stick with one color becuz a lot of the time they land upside down and its hard to get them to flip over.

Probably the main reason I will never switch from my Spro frog. (That and the fact it has been such a great lure to begin with )

I have fished frogs down to around the 10 foot mark and they have worked great for me as well as crawfish.

I use strictly horny toads and they always land straight up and fish great
