Default To all of you fishing in the HNI bass contest!

I was reading through the rules this morning to refresh my memory of the timelines in which this tournament will be taking place. Here is a reminder if you guys don't remember (SEE BELOW). I have a proposition and I wanted to get others oppinions. Josh since you came up with the rules you would be the ultimate decision maker on this. I noticed that this tournament doesn't wrap up until the end of Oct. I don't know about alot of you, but come October there's only one thing on my mind and thats BOWhunting. Bow season opens up Oct. 1 here in IL. I guess what I am saying is this, If i'm lucky enough to make the finals of the fishing tournament, I won't even be fishing in oct. Because I will be focused on hunting. Now guys, if I am out of line in thinking this way just tell me to shut up and I will accept the rules that have already been established. But, I think it would be a better idea to wrap this thing up, say Aug.31 or at the latest mid. Sept. So that we can begin to focus on hunting season. I don't know about you guys but there is not enough time in a day for both hunting and fishing. I am totally consumed by both sports and if I tried to do them both at the same time I believe I would drive myself crazy. Guys, as I mentioned earlier, this is just my thinking. Let me know how you guys feel. One suggestionwould beto just take the top 2 contestants from each division instead of the top 4. I don't know just seems like it drags to far into hunting season.

Its time to sign up for the 2007 HNI bass tournament. This year it has a twist. Sign up will be until January 31'st.

Fishing will begin on February 1st, and last until June 30th. Enter all the fish you can. On July 1st (or around about), I will tally up all the picture entries, and count everyones 2 biggest fish (by weight).

There will be a north and south bracket (will figure out the definition of north and south before feb 1st). The top 4 of each bracket (based upon those 2 biggest fish per user), will be seeded 1 - 4. 1 will face 4. 2 will face 3.

You have one month to fish your bracket (august). The biggest two bass count again. The winner will go on to face the winner of the 2 vs 3 bracket. Again, a whole month to fish (September).

In October (when the biggest fish are fattening up in the north), the winner of the north bracket will face the winner of the south bracket (where most of the fish are still in an offshore pattern) for the title of best bass fisherman on HNI.

Largemouth, smallmouth, spotted bass are permitted. All entriest must include a picture. You do NOT need to be in the picture, but if your not, the fish must be laying on a measuring board/stick/tape in the picture, and your user name must be in the picture somehow (recommended that you bring a peice of paper/marker) . During the tournament play (august, september, october) the date must be in the picture - be a timestamp, or writing the date on a small dry erase/chalkboard/peice of paper).

I agree and have already addressed Josh about it earlier..Josh's reasoning was that the bass are biting better and bigger in the north at this time of the year..thus giving them a chance in the finals.

While that is the case, it doesn't matter how good and how big they are biting if you are sitting in a tree in the woods. Keep in mind this is a hunting website and most people found or stumbled across this website while looking for hunting related material online not fishing. Lets wait and see what the northerners say.

I agree Childers but the end of august would even be better. I need a month to get my bow lined in and my shoulder conditioned.

its fine with me - if you guys want to have a bracket match during july - i'll be sitting in the air conditioning with a cold beer and remote in hand.

how about we take the top 4 in each division. pair up the 4 northerns, with the 4 southerns, and fish it at a 2 man team, have july 1 - aug 31 to fish, and just go by final weight of the teams. that would regate the southern/northern thing - otherwise, the only fair way to split up north and south would be to have the finals during the time o fyear that best benefits the northern fisherman.

Josh,

Since your pairing system would have 2 winners anyway..then why not do something similiar.??..
You could have a north and south division...a winner for the south and winner for the north.

I also agree that the 2 winners should be finaliized in Aug. 31st.

You could have your 4 top in each group face off in July

and then the final 2 in the north face off in Aug. and the final 2 in the south face off in Aug.

In the end, there would bea champ in the north and a champ for the south

Just a suggestion ..

Josh ..Sounds Good
