Default Bought the Lew's, It must be fate

Went to Wally World this weekend and there in the clearance bin was not one but two of the Lew's Laser reels I had been looking at at Cabela's. And for the same discounted price. Well, what's a guy to do. I plunked down the cash and walked off with a new reel. Went to Lunker's afterward and picked up a spool of 10 lb P-Line Floroclear. I put it all on my graphite casting rod and went fishing.

My initial reaction is very positive, both of the line and the reel. The 6.2:1 gear ratio on the reel brings in crankbaits fasterthan anything I have ever owned. It casts very smooth and once I figured how the magnetic brake liked being set I had casts going 25-30 yards. I was fishing below a local power-generating dam. It is quite possibly the harshest enviroment I fish in. The bottom is littered with not only boulders but big chunks of broken concrete. There is a large eddy on the north side of the river, the side opposite the dam's water release, that collects water logged timber. That is also the one of the best places to fish, but eats line. I fished for two hours casting cranks, jigs and swim baits, running them right along the bottom. The P-line took the abuse and never failed. The three times I snagged and couldn't get it loose, I had to apply serious pressure to get the knot to fail. I mean scary pressure. I am quite pleased.

Now all I need to do is order an e-glass rod for the reel and I"ll be set. I'm going out after catfish tomorrow at the same location,I'll let you know how well the reel fights fish.
