Default Anyone own a Lew's?

Anyone here own a Lew's baitcasting reel? I've seen them in BPS and Cabela's for years but never really checked them out. Now they got one on sale and I'm looking at setting up a rod just for crankbaits and the price is right and the gear ratio is right and ...well, just want to know what kind of quality I'm looking at. My local shop doesn't carry them, though everyone has heard of them, and nobody seems to know what they're like.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

they are junk. if ur lookin for a cheap and dependable baitcaster buy the bass pro shop extreme. they usually have a combo on sale for like 80 and they are pretty good for the money and they will replace if broke. i used to work at a bass pro and have seen diff opinions

I have glanced at them a few times at the store but they look real cheap. I purchased the Bill Dance Quantum combo last year at Bass Pro and have been happy with it for the price that I spent. Definetly doesn't compare to my highend reels though.

I've had 2 Lew's reels.1st one I threw into a tidal river when it slipped outa my hands on a rainy day[] Man I did love that reel.A no frills very well built reel.I Never did find it.

Bought the Lew's BB25 SS couple years ago. They've been around for decades and never heard anything negative untill this topic. One of the old time bass pro's used the Lew's reels for years - Can't remember his name?

I'd say if its on sale buy it.Keep it lubed up twice a year and that reel will last for decades to come.

RB,
That's the Baby! I think you'll like it.Very solid built reel. Not as handsome as the 1st one I had in gold trim. The BB25 SS is "Stainless" a big plus if you fish around brackish(salt) water as I often do.

I'm pretty happy with what I have, especially the Penn, but I have never used a Lew'sor owned one , but I will!

Nice collection RB. I like all the Abu's. I haven't really looked at any of the round baitcasters. Where did you find the pic of the Lew's above? That's not the reel at Cabela's which is the LB300HS. I almost like the look of the one you've found better.

The LB300HS is the low profile series w/magnetic spool.
Whole different animal.
