A fishing buddy I have been fishing with most of the winter out did me today! I have been making alot of fun at him for not doing so good at jigging for lake trout! Well, he got me back big time today with one of those fish we all dream about getting up here. The white fish on top is 18 inches that I had caught and the big lake trout he had caught is 39 inches. Now he has the right to tell me what to do as he finally caught 2 fish jigging and the last one was hugh. I had to grab it by the gills as it started coming out of the ice for him. Here is a photo of it.
awesome man, but truth of the matter you were probably just as happy that he had a good day, i know i'll rag my wife out on the days i luck up and catch a few, then she'll promptly administer a butt whoopin on me[:@], and i get to hear about it till we go again, now that hurts, but it's just payback from all the times i put it on her...fish on man

Your right m.t., it's the first time he has ever caught a lake trout and did he lay it onme LOL. So I know this is one fishing trip he will always remember!
ive caught a lake trout like that in yellowstone that was about 15 lbs. they are so much fun and i did mine on fly so i bet it was real hard on a jig or real easy i cant decide

No doubt it would have been alot of fun on a fly rod and it is also very challenging to bring it up from the bottom of the lake and try to get it out of a 9 inch hole that is about 2 and 1/2 feet thick. Here the lake doesn't give up many big trout though they are there, only a few get caught each year.
My fishin buddy was going to get it mounted but, now he is not sure as cost he said was a factor. I gave him a few good names to check out but, he is still not sure. Anyhow he is thinking on giving it to me to mount? I am not sure if I want to or not as he caught it. I took him there and he showed me off so I am not sure about me having it mounted though. As I know someday my turn to bring one of those up will come around. What would you do if given the choice?
