Well, where I live at and the few species available.... Crappie..
Why???...I love reeling in a slab slowly on my high speed Garcia 101 and seeing the ultra light bent over completely. The bait I use is minnows or Hal fly jigs. I love eatting them too.
Again..location is everything...I wished I lived by a trout stream .
2nd place...Largemouth bass....technique..Flipping / pitching..when I'm hard up for a hawg..I go to shiner fishing.
to me theres only 3 types of fishing. stocked trout fishing, wild and native trout fishing and big catfish fishing. my love is native and wild trout fishing...never get tired of catchin them little gems..and the places i have to go to fish for them are absolutely beautiful. then once spring turns to summer i drop the ultralight and pick up the giant catfish poles and lantern. ill take a tackle busting flathead catfish any day. sittin down the river at 11pm on a warm summer night...noone around..no commotion except the hiss of the lantern..then i do a good bit of stocked trout fishing...mainly because i cant get to wild trout streams as often as id like...and they can be fun to catch sometimes..
i used to do alot of fishing for smallmouth/largemouth/panfish etc...but dont do it much anymore...if i get to the river early in the summer before night fall ill fish for anything thatll eat a minnow...that can be fun because you never know whatll eat your minnow in the river..from a tiny bluegill or crappie to a big ole walleye or something...

bass, other fishing is fun and enjoyable but i would take a trophy bass or a trophy whitetail over anything else, i could catch the world record of any other fish or kill a world record animal and i just wouldn't have the appriciation of the event, kind of like the kid that goes out and kills a booner his first season, i would have no concept of what is a record or just another critter, deer and bass, well i'm keeping it simple
my favorite way to bass fish: Jigs, flippin and pitchin
most fun: topwater
