Default help me with the value of this '82 Ranger 375V I/O !!!!!!!

1982 375V/IO - I've got a co-worker that has one of these, and wants to sell it. What is your experience with the boat ? I've got no idea about I/O but know the style of the boat and like it. I've got kids thats going to be old enough to go to the lakes soon - and I like fishing, seems like a good blend of the two boat. His has a custom ski rack for it, and some kind of custom prop kit that auto-adjusts to come out of the hole quick. Anyway, dunno the price yet - any idea what one in really good condition would go for ?

Check to see if the bellows around the outdrive are dryrotted. Big buck if it needs replacing.

he's asking $ 4,000 ........ he's a co-worker of 6 years, I know he takes excellent care of his things. He said it hasn't been to the lake in 4 years, though spring/fall he runs the motor and winterizes it religiously. The hull, trailer, everything looks ultra nice, the carpet and upholstery of course show their age.

It has some kind of self-adjusting prop system that he said was $750 - and the customer ski bars he had made. That engine probably hasn't seen 15 hours of use in the last 10 years ! The prop looks like its new.

$4,000 is quite a bit ...... I know if it was a 1982 150 black mercury I'd likely not consider it, $3,000 to have a powerhead put on an outboard. I have no idea about IO motors

That looks like an OMC I/O. Again, its an old boat, and you'll sink money into it. If you want to pay the money is up to you, but I'd offer 3k assuming it checked out by the mechanic of your choice. You'll also need to factor in tax/title/registration, and those sort of tthings.

The boat itsself and trailer I believe to be in top shape. That I/O OMC 3.8 litre engine ........ thats the kicker. If it were a 1982 Johnson 150 hp I'd know it was bound to go out sooner or later, you know ? Outboards don't last forver, especially the big ones, and a powerhead is $2-3000 to rebuild or more.

Does IO motors last ? The motor itsself, of the lower unit goes ? I'd think they'd last a long time if taken care of ....

Other than the motor, I doubt anything would NEED done to it, and even then, if what he says is accurate, its in ready to go shape right now, ultra fine condition

Thanks for the input ........

$2,500 would be as high as i would go on that boat if i had to have it.If you pay $4,000 for it and have to put money in it you won't get it back. You can find a newer one than that for 4,000 IMO.Its better to put money in a newer boat than an older one.IMO you can find a better deal for $4,000.Just my 2 cent's
