Thought you guys might like this story about my first palomino....
I was fishing with my cousin in the streams of Fulton County, PA. It was the first day of fishing season and like most years, it was rainy and dark. We were the youngest of the fishermen that day and were excited to get some fish.
We started the day by walking down an old farm lane that led to the woods that held the stream where we would make our first cast. It seemed like it took all day, but really only took about 45 mins to get to our fishing hole. On the walk down there were all kinds of fishermen and all kinds of conversations...arguments....about which bait to use, how many sinkers, what size hook, and so on. I gave my opinion, not really knowing if it was truly the best, but to be honest, I did not care what I caught a fish with, just that I would catch one.
Finally we arrived. I got out my bait, of which I decided to use earthworms, as boring as that was. My cousin opted for Powerbait. I drew back, flicked my wrist forward and "plop" I was fishing. I had patienly casted, reeled back in, and casted again. This went on until late morining....and then SHE came to us!!
Before lunch I made a weak cast under a tree limb that had fallen into the stream. Upser with my cast at first, I started to reel it in, but then she bit. I felt the slippery creature pull on my line, I gave a yell to my cousin, "I think I got one here". He gave a look over but kept on fishing. I tried to reel her in some more...no luck...she was a fighter!! I tried and tried with no luck, and the fish stareted to splash out of the water.
My cousin saw the fish splash and came to my aide. He grabed the line and started to pull. I counted to three and yelled, "PULL!"
We both gave our best pull and then.....we were both on the ground, flat on our butts. I looked up wth shock to see the Palomino was sitting right next to me.....we did it!!
The other fishermen around the steam gave a yell......"nice teamwork"....and it was.....
Thanks Cousin....
