whats the water tempature?? if the water is above 65 degrees Id look for deep pools. trout will hold in the coolest water they can find.

are you fly fishing or using spinning gear? if fly fishing I would use the usual tactics just keep an eye out for what the fish may be feeding on and use flies that are similar to the forage. with spinning tackle id use a meal worm on a 12 or 14 hook about 6 to 8 inches below a small float and drift it into pools and eddies.

I am using spinning tackle, I am going to bring some crawlers and some mealworms. I have had succes on both ends. I have never used a float while trout fishing but may have to trout it. I will add a slip bobber to my vest. I am headed out this evening for the 3 day excursion. Thanks for the help!

Try Grass hoppers, as fun to catch as fish, in the a.m. they are slower because of the cold temps. Just use a casting bubble and fish them close to the bank in deep runs and holes. Also look for springs dumping cold water into the main river, trout likecold water. Spinners also work well.

My only problem with worms is that they kill alot of fish that you may not want to keep. Fish tend to take the hook vary deep with worms. Also in summer trout are under alot of stress, low warmwater, so if youplan on lettinga fish go, land it fast and dont keep it out of the water for vary long.

I would have to say that most rivers in the GR area would be 60deg and up, and if you have one that stays colder then that this time of year dont tell anyone about it.

Good luck

I'm fishing no where near GR, the only trout I catch around there are planters. I am fishing up near the Canadian Border.

If you are going after wildbrook trout then Iwould say leave the worms at home and use spinners, there is no better lure for brooks in moving water. None of the mess and in most casesthey will out fish live bait. In slower water a french spinner with a worm traileris deadly.

Are you going to be inUpper MIN, or out east?

If you get a chance take a water temps,I am interested to see how cold the water is up there. I live as far north as alot of theborder waters and I dont see water that cold this time of year, and if I do it is spring fed.
