Default She bought me a new daiwa reel!!

while the wife was away in kansas city visiting family she bought me a new reel. I had no idea till she gave it to me after I picked her up from the airport this evening.

Its a really sweet reel its a dawia regal 1000xi I couldnt believe it for a ultra light reel they crammed 9 ball bearings plus 1 roller bearing into this little reel. its so smooth you just breath on the handle it practically reels itself.

I put it on my quantum xtralite rod and strung it up with 4 lb low-vis green berkley XL line gonna try for some trout tomorrow, I cant wait to see how this reel performs. just too excited and happy had to share this with you all.

I have alot of confidence in the 4 lbs stuff, my biggest fish I ever landed on 4 lb was a 13 lbs carp. just take it easy and go about it slow no horsing the fish 4 lb will get ya by.

Now that is awesome. I've caught those big ole orange carp up north.Thos ebad boys can flat out fight running side to side. On 4 pound test ...that must be some kind of record. WOW I need to downsize my 6 to 4 I guess when bluegill fishing. NOT BASS Here is abig carp someone caught.

holy cow!!! thats huge carp. something like that would run my drag out and peel off all 100 yards of the 4 lb line.

well with your blue gil fishing you might stick with the 6 lb those little guys can take you for a ride also line dia. doesnt seem to effect them. A few years back I hooked into a 2 lb blue gil at a blue gil management lake in missouri. that little 2 lb fish fought every bit as hard as a 5 lbs bass (I speak from experience, ive landed a 5 lb bass on 4 lb line) I was using 6 lb line at the time and with all the junk that fish wrapped my line around I might have lost it if i were using 4 lb.

for trout fishing its kind of the standard to use 4lb line or less where trout have good vision and spook easy. I landed my largest rainbow trout which was over 6 lbs on a 2 lb leader, luckily it was in a rocky bottom lake with no standing timber which allowed me to let it run as it needed to tire out, it took me atleast 20 minutes to land that monster. Ive trout fished quite a bit in southern missouri and with all the junk in the streams down there I feel you should use 4 lb at the minimum. down there ive caught lots of nice rainbow trout ranging up to 5 lbs and caught a brown trout that weighed over 5 lbs.

I got away from 2 lb leaders ever since I got into flourocarbon leaders, I have a dozen spools of 4 lb berkley vanish I bought for a buck a spool on the clearance rack at wally world. Ive been using this stuff for leaders with great sucess on trout. I tried using the vanish on my reels but the stuff is too stiff to be used as line and casts horribly let alone the junk doesnt like to stay on the spool and gets tangled real easy.
