Default Saltwater Question

Hey fellows ,
I was planning to take my rig { LOL 10 foot jon boat} on the saltwater flats for some redfish fishing. Will my MinnKota be ok if I just rinse it off real good when I get home. Will my heavy duty welded aluminum boat be ok. Should Irinse it in a freshwater lakewhen I get home? Should I hose down my rod and reels good.? I only plan to take my spinning stuff..not my baitcasters.
Thanks,
Chuck7

Thanks oneshot..
.I was concerned. I've never been here before . My friend says I will dock on a shallow canal. It goes 1/2 mile to meet the bay. I'm supposed to stop there and fish live shrimp...He said I could catch redfish, snook, flounder or sea trout. The canal is mostly 3 feet deep except when the tide is in. I wonder if I should use a leader. Snook arew not in season now. It should be exciting. The drive is 36 miles. I'm going bluegill fishing tomoorw. I need some panfish in my freezer. Getting low on crappie.

yep just hose it all down real good when you are done. you may even let the trolling motor run for a few minutes in a trash can full of fresh water.

Chuck, I'm not a salt water fisherman by any stretch..my passion is fly fishing for trout here in New England.

Anyway, the wife an I go to your state a couple times a year and visittwo of the kids that live/work on Sanibel/Captiva. My son is an avid fishermanand we often fish for snook and redfish. Shrimp always seems to catch most anything in those water in theGulf of Mexico, but using frozen sandines really works on the redfish.

The frozen sardinesare about 6-7 in long and we cut them in 1/2 and fish with no weights. Casting is the biggest part to being successful becausewe always want the bait to land as close to the shoreline as possible under the groves.

It's a new way for me tofish and I can appreciate the teriffic world class fishing SW FL has to offer.

Good Luck....

Fellows,
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply .I appreciate that. I just got done replacing the bearings in my trailor..race and all. I just want to make sur emy wheel doesn't fly off going down the interstate. My son used my boat once and sure enough the wheel came off and was floating in the lake. Since then I carry a new extra bearing set and grease.

Hey Chuck, salt water on Aluminum causes Electrolysis and causes it to Oxidize and crumble. Rinseing it down with fresh water is a must.

I had no idea what those boats cost brand new. I bought mine used. They aren't cheap but I like mine very much. I got mine cheap back in the 80s. for 100.00 Really stable for a jon boat. 14 foot is a real nice size. I'd like to find one.
