Default Canada Fishing Can't wait!

I leave 3 weeks from today for NW Onterio for Walleye and Northern. I can't wait. Has anyone already gone this spring to Canada? If so, how did you do? Post some pictures if you got any.

We are flying out of Red Lake which is just north of Ear Falls to a lake called Wanda. This will be my first time to fish it. We will be tenting it this year, that should be interesting. In 2005 we stayed on Apps Lake. In 2004 we stayed on Severn Lake. Both of those lakes had cabins on them. The thing I like is that they drop us off and we are the only ones on the lakes. Last year we had 30 miles of water all to ourselves. I caught my biggest to date. 42 inches and 16.7 ibs.

I'm going to CAnadain 13 days and me and my dad are going to Caribu Coffee to look over our maps and plan the trip. We have been to this lake 2 other times. The lake isnamed Eltrut Lake it is north east of Fort Francis the biggest fish I've caught there is a 5 pound smallie But the walleyes are mostly small and the northern are usually about two ponds. But the smallies are usually about 3.5 and a few here and there that are 4 or over.

Well guys I live in MB, a few hours (4-5) away from where you going. If you want to catch bigger fish you have tyo hit a lake that has them. Alot of lakes here are managed for numbers and not size, this is beginning to change in alot of spots so if you do your research you can find big fish. Ontario you can still fish w/barbs on most lakes but MB is completely barbless, some lakes even have a ban on lead tackle.

Sorry for the quality of the first pic(pardon the pun) of a Master angler Walleye-----28" long and was about 10lbs. Too cold for pics outside as the eye's would freeze in only moments. The second pic is my first catsfish ever, not bad eh? This one was 36.5" and just over 20lbs. These are not the biggest of either species that I have caught.
If you are going for walleye, lots of jigs. Different weights, sizes and colours. Beetle spins, deep diving crankbaits, bucktail jigs and even live-bait rigs where legal. Any more questions just keep'em coming!

Actually, Eltrut's closer to where I live (Atikokan) than all the other lakes. I've heard there are some MONSTER pike in there. Just letting you know what I know.

Just curious, do you know what you'll be using for lures?? Have you ever used cisco on a quick strike rig??

Never tried the cisco. We use alot of stick baits like thundersticks and rapalas also, johnson silver minnow and daredeviles. I've even had some luck with a plain v-in line single hook spinner bait although they really take a beating. We troll and cast. I've loaded up on fire tiger colored lures, I'vebeen told thats a hot color. We will see.

For big pike. Try a quick strike and a live sucker..... 10". Wild suckers do best, the bait shop here has one that is 24" just waiting for someone. ALot of times piek will be incidental catches when fishing for walleye too, the biggest pike I've seen so far came up on a jig and minnow. LArgest pike on record for MB(caught by a commercial fisherman) was 72" long....... they canned it[&o]
