Default New Motor

Hi Guys
I just put a new 60 hp 2006 merc efi 4 stroke on my 16' aluminium boat and what an upgrade that was.I used to have a 1996 40 hp pre mix 2 stroke merc force that really only ran good at Wide open throttle. This motor trolls down great so I got rid of my kicker and it sips gas compared to the old one. The other motor pushed my boat about 26 mph this one is in the upper 30's and I think I still have to increase the pitch on the prop to get the rpm down and that should getme even a little more top end.I know you bass boat guys are LOL on those numbers but it seems real fast in a 800lb aluminium Boat. Anybody else running a mid range merc 4 stroke if so let me know how you like it? Buy the may because I got it before april 15 merc gave me a 5 year warrantyat no extra charge I hope I dont need to use it.
Good Luck Fishing
Gene

somethings wrong there. YOu should be doing low to mid 40's.

As for the merc, congrats.

That 2 stroke probably coulda been fixed up with a simple carburetor clean, decarbonizing, and new indexed plugs.

Hey Josh I know what your saying but that motor ran almost as good as the day I bought it new and even then itwas not half the motor this new 4 stroke is. It would never troll down so I put a 4 hp kicker on which worked good but was a pain in the butt. Those force motors where HP rated at the power head not the prop so it was realy only about a 35 HP motor this new 60 rips. I think if it had oil injection instead of pre mix I would still have it but I got a pretty good trade out of it and 10 years of service and I only paid 8000 for the boat motor and trailer brand new in 1996 so it did not owe me a thing.

my boat is 20 years old also. I have a 115 hp and get 56 mph or so. Also have an 85 hp motor that I got for next to nothing and get 40 or so. This is with a 2500 lb boat.

what kind of motor are you prop shopping for?
