Default How to fish moss beds?

At one pond I want to fish at, it has like a 3 foot moss ring all the way around it. What kind of lure and how do I use it should I use? I was thinking small frogs or some other kind of insect? Would smallish bass eat the big frog lures I see in the store? Or should I stick to small lures? This isnt a real big pond, and there is no other cover except moss......Another question....How do I keep from getting 10 pounds of moss on my line when I retrieve?

Is this green stuff algae or moss? I've never seen moss grow on water before. We get green stuff down here in the spring as the water turns. I use weedless spinnner baits , or rubber worms {Texas rig} Top water may work in certain areas. Our lakes are mostly thick hydrilla, eel grass ,duck weed or kissimmee grass. Here's a photo of algae.

ive always just gone rambo and fished a texas rigged worm or tube weedless style and just deal with the moss, bass seem to like hanging out in the stuff if you get a bunch on your line just take it off and go about fishing. pulling in a 3 lbs bass and 10 lbs of moss aint nothing new. just something you have to deal with being a small pond you might take a rake and scoop enough out to thin it some. something I did at my buddies pond was get in my jon boat with a rake and trash can and spend all day pulling the stuff out but its alot of work even on a 1 acre pond.

Try wading out in the water so that you are standing even with the where the moss stops. If it is midday, work a texas rigged worm along the edge. Or, go out really early or really late in the day and work the edge with a hula popper or jitterbug.

Is it deep water ? Does it feel like it's all a float and cold water ? If so we catch trout in those places here and they are hard to get to bite. Just walking on the edge of the place will scare them in deep. You might want to try abobber fishing with bait. Good Luck

I use a moss boss in this kind of water situation. Just gently pull it across the moss and let it fall in the holes on the way in. The fis are under there for sure.
