Default Fly Fishing Knot...

What knot do you recommend using to attach your fly line directly to 8feet of monofilament line.

Actually, when I troll in the lake I sometimes use straight 8 lb monofilament line from my fly line. I have lost too many fish, (salmon and trout) when they hit my streamer, if I'm use anything else.

Would you use the "nail" know, the "blood" knot or possibly something else? Thanks in advance.

More than likely, the blood knot will not work for what you're attempting.

THe nail knot is the way to go. Remember, you can always use heavier mono line at first then taper it down to your desired lb/test using the blood knot between the different mono lines (as long as the diiferences in lb/test of the connected sectionsare not too big), but....a nail knot should be used when connecting to the fly line itself.

i bought a kit from cortland...comes with a few loops...and a plastic tube....cut a section of the tubing off..slide it over the loop...slide the loop over your fly line down to the loop..put the plastic tube over the end of the loop and heat it...it shrinks tight......i fought a 4-5lb rainbow for 10-15mins with 8foot of 3 or 4lb tippet(forgot the leaders in the truck back at school!) and it held fine.....i like them...tie your leader..mono in your case right to the loop...i like them....no fancy knots to tie or anything.....when you wanna change leaders just cut it off of the loop

I have heard that if you use loops to connect you lines it messes something up with your casts and what not, so I just barely did a blood knot

I do a ton of fly-fishing and I use the same system as mauser does, those loops work real nice and they don't affect casting either. Anytime there is a knot, that's the weakest part, and this eliminates the weak spot. I have used them from bluegills all the way up to 30 pound salmon in streams in the fall.
