Default Bass Fishing Pole

I'm looking to buy a new pole for bass fishing. I currently only have a few catfish rods, so I was just wondering what kind of setup you guys would suggest for bass. I don't want something real expensive, but I also don't want some cheap junk.

I feel like a broken record...but the shakespeare Ugly Stik in a Medium action is gonna be hard to beat for the price. The best? No... but its not a $100 rod either.

Reels aren't my area...I go one of three routes....Zebco 33s, cheap spinners, or Penns (309, 209 and 9)

Well I just realized I have an old spinning reel in my garage that is almost brand new, that I used to use before I really got into catfishing. So that there just saved me a few bucks.

I'll definantly look into the Ugly Stick though.

All depends if your worming or spinning.

If worming...diffently get a worm rod Walmart sells nice Berkley rods Medium heavy .I have a 6 1/2 'Bionic and a bunch of 6'Lightening Rods. Quantum makes a great reel for 60.00 I've used it for 6 years and still going strong. It's gray. I believe it's the model 1100.If interested I can give you the exact model number.
Spinning reels will twist your line up horrible if used for a worm rod.

On the other hand I would reckomend the 6 1/2 ' Medium spinning rod with a Abu Spinning Reel. I love mine. Cost about 65.00 for both together. This is good for spinning baits and top water. I would use the bait caster for lipped crank baits and worms. You should get 2 rods my friend. One spinning and the other a worm rod.

BUT...if money is a serious issue..I'd get a spinning . You can always use a snap swivel to help with line twist.Lightening rods are great and guaranteed.

I was thinking about this post yesterday. I had once quit fishing fo r2 years. I was in college and my family was poor. Once another Christian man came to our home to use our bathroom. When he left he had taped a 200.00 check to our medicine cabinet. Our first extra money. I ask her if we could buy 2 fishing rods and if I promiced to fish in moderation to start up again. She agreed. I bought 2 Diawa combo outfits. They were like 29.00 a piece. Graphite bearings and all.....

I caught more fish and big bass off those 2 cheap rods then all my new stuff put together. I took my wife flipping once. She loves to read. She had a novel in one hand and that cheap blue 6' Diawa in the other,Tap Tap and she was pulling in bass 2=3 pounds no kidding.LOL We did keep fish in those days.We fished to eat. Oh ...and I got a boat too.100.00
I'm still using it today.

Bass pro shops has some great IM7 and Im8 quality rods... the bass pro brands are as good as whats on the market.. I have a Im8 my heavy for worming and an Im8 med for crank baits.. they were about 75.00 each. I've had them over 6 years and are still in great shape.

Don't bother with the different IM# stuff...it'sa marketing strategy. In reality, it means very little to the fisherman. Pro's don't even care about the IM#.

If you want a really good rod for a decent price, buy a St. Croix..but last year's model. This is the best time to get them on clearance. I always buy a new S.C. for nearly half the price as it was when it came outthe year before.
