A little over 7 lbs . I have the whole battle on video tape. I have another 7 mounted. It's in my classroom by my fish bulletin boardI use fishing trips as incentives to get kids reading.
I teach 3rd grade.

PS I live in Florida and should have caught bigger fish. No excuses. They seem to strike hard and fast when I least expect it. I'll be drifting a 10" worm for an hour daydreaming then POW! rod bends over ,she feel s me and lets go.
That has happened about 10 times.

Ah so many just shy of 5 but never topped that elusive 5lb mark. 5 plus is a trophy here but have seen some 6-7's come out of some local tourneys.

6-1/2 lbs. on a 3/4oz white spinner bait at Lake Fork TX.
I was pretty happy but around there that hardly gets a 2nd look.

March04 I FINALLY put a hawgmomma in the boat. 27" length, only 18" girth and she weighed on a certified digital scale at 9.5#s. She came from a private lake in MS (about 25 acres) that was built and stocked for trophy bass fishing. Had I caught her a month earlier before she spawned her weight would've been closer too the 12-13# range! She had already spawned and was in rough shape, just trying to recover from the spawn. She was quickly measured, photo'd and then released. Keep the genes in the lake and a repro mount looks much better and lasts FOREVER.

I caught her on a 1/4oz black/chartreuse Strike King jig with a Strike King chartreuse/pepper 3x crawtrailer in about 5' of water under a HUGE stump. Thank God I had 30# braid on!!!

Throw em back and show your kids how to catch em one day,
RA

11 pound 9 ounces (bottom fish, Lake fork), 11 pounds 5 ounces (top fish, lakeFork) and my Dad in the middle with an 11 pound 3 ounce (Arkansas fish)

The 11-5 I used a deliar and released ........ and looking back that fish was likely over 12 pounds. I believe she was an honest 28" and look at her girth ...... massive fish. I caught them different years, maybe 100 yards from each other. That one cove on lake Fork I've caught probably 10 fish between 8-12 pounds, and who knows how many 5-8 pound fish. ( 7-8" Live Waterdawgs for bait, 35 pound line, 7' heavy action rods, 6/0 hooks ! )
