Default Trout Fishing in Colorado, Any help?

I will be taking a trip to Colorado in August with my Girlfriend and another couple. The place we will be camping has a lakeand offerstrout fishing. I think they charge $12 and limit you to keeping 3 fish of any size. Any help on trout fishing would be appreciated.

I have spinning rods and reels, will they work? What Kind of baits and tacke are normally used? Flies? Plastic worms? Live bait? How is the bait fished? Etc....?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys are able to give me!

It sound like a trout pond and if that is the case they may have restrictions on what you can use. If no I would say use spiner (panther martins, roster tails, meps, just to name a few. sizes 0 1 2 should work). If you want yo can cut off two of the hooks and let some of the fish go so you can fish longer. Small spones work well to. It has been years since I fishe a spinner so I couldent tell you any specific paterns, but silver worked good for me and a yellow and black panther martin.

Good luck

What kind of restriction should I anticipate? will this be a stocked pond? in what way should I fish the baits?

I dont know if is a stock pond but the way you described it it sounds like one. They may want you to keep everything you catch, they may also have spacific baits that you can fish with. I have never been to one but there are a few in my area.

To fish a spinner you just keep it moving so the blade keeps spinning around, you can fish it fats or solw, but just remember to keep those blades moving. A spinner is a imitation of a minniow so make it look like one.

I actually live in the boulder area and fish plenty. Where are you going? I would be cautious of these places, they arent what I would refer to as real fishing. It doesnt mean it isnt fishing or even any good, I just prefer to steer clear of these places. Colorado actually has an abundance of good fishing, you just need to be willing to spend effort to get to those places. I will be happy to help in any way I can! EJ

Our planned trip to Colorado is notfor the purpose of fishing. As it turns out the place we are camping has a Trout pond and so we thought we would fish it for the heck of it. I wanted to because I have never fished for trout before so I thought the trout pond at the campground would be an opportunity to try my hand at it.

Well, yeah. Now that ya put it that a way the trout pond probably aint such a horrible idea. Dont let it form your opinion of trout fishing though. EJ
