Default Pre-64 Model 70 300 H&H

A friend has one of these that he will sell me as long as I promise not to break the gun up. The Bluing is pretty much shot , the bore is very clean and the wood is in pretty good shape. Lot of history with this gun belonged to an Old guy up in Alaska who evidently carried it around and used it on Moose and Bear. It has a lot of character. He is asking 700 bucks ...is that in line with what one of these are worth? I have looked at a lot of places and Pre-64 300 H&H's are not coming out of the woodwork.

OEH,
I'd buy it right now and twice on Sunday. It's worth a heck of a lot more than 700. The chambering is rare to start with. Can you give me the first three digits of the SN? I can tell you more about specific value if I know the date of manufacture. If I had to guess, I'd guess early to late 40's. Which may make it a pre-war. Mine is a 1948 model in 270 but I re-blued and re-stocked keeping the original sights and even the old steel buttplate. I have been offered over 2000 for mine. If you don't buy it, I'll be happy to stand in for ya!

I've been doing nothing but thinking about this gun for the past few days along with a 375 H&H . I would love to own both and will end up with both some way or another.
