Default Smith & Wesson Model 27 .357 Mag.

I've been looking at a S&W Model 27 revolver, 6 inch barrel, blue, excellent condition, in the factory supplied wood box with the original literature. Its priced at $600. Anybody had one of these that can give me a quick review of it? Is this a decent price?

Don't know about the price, good or bad, but the S&W Model 27 is an excellent revolver.
The model 27, and the 28, are "N" frame S&W revolvers. These were the early models
made for the 357magnum. The 27 is the higher grade version with better blueing, target grips, hammer, red ramp front sight, and I think a white outline rear also.
The model 28 was the service grade version.
You might want to check out prices on GunBroker.com. Also, check out the S&W forum
for addtl. info.;

The older S&W in the wooden boxes sell for a premium, but $600.00 still seems far to high to me.

IMHO 600.00 for a model 27 is way out of line.In 1985 S&W came out with a boxed M-27 50th Anniversary of the 357 mag. These were a limited edition. They are only bringing about 600.00 maybe 700.00 .There were only about 2500 of these made.In fact they are a couple on Gunsamerica right now. From 600.00 to 749.00.For a standard M-27 that seems outragious to me even in the wooden box.Like mentioned check auctions or www.gunsamerica.com
My dealer and I were just talking about these a few weeks ago.For some reason the S&W M-27 never was a big seller,really never did much.It is a "N'' frame,sorta big for a 357 Mag.I would rather have a K or L frame myself.

The 27 is the top of the line 357 from Smith with the exception being the ones from the Performance Center. But, I'll also agree that $600 is a little steep for it. I can usually pick them up around here for $450-550. Like RR said, the "N" frame in 357 is just not for me.

I've got a Ruger GP-100 Stainless, 6" bbl that I bought new a few years ago for $340 and I love it. Easily my favorite gun that I have right now. The only problem I have with it is that the trigger pull is a little stiff, but I ordered a spring kit from wolf springs this week.

I liked the feel of the Model 27, and I doubt that I will ever have enough guns, especially revolvers.

Iowa, the only thing is that the Mod 27 is limited and a good collectable!

R.H.
I assume you meant to say GP100 ,not 101. The little Ruger revolver is the SP101.The older Smiths are quality made guns and are bringing more money.600.00 is still to much for a M27.Not to surprise anyone, I like the Ruger's better.I've have or had my fair share of Smith's.The newer ones are not the same quality as those from earlier productions.If you want a Heavy Duty 357mag. That's if you can find one a Ruger Redhawk. Ruger discontinued them some years back.IMHO a much stronger gun then the Smith "N"frames.
