Wow, that's a pretty broad question! You're gonna get a different answer from about everyone you ask that question. My answer would be to get the best scope that you can afford and stay away from the cheap junk. Any thing in 3-9x40 and above will work great on a .17 HMR.

The 17HMR is one FINE caliber and an absolute blast to shoot. I just wouldn't ruin ANYKIND of gun with a sorry POS scope like a BSA.

just my opinion.

For the most part you get what you pay for. May opinion this holds true in the world of optics. If you have money you can loose then I say try the BSA and if it is junk toss it, worst case you didn't loose much. BSA used to sell high quality optics in Europe, not sure what they are selling here in the US. Enjoy the .17!

I have a Savage 17 hmr and enjoy shooting this rifle. I have a Bushnell 6-18x40mm Trophy scope mounted and find it takes full benefit of the accuracy of this little bullet. You should go at least 9 power and higher. I can"™t comment on the BSA scopes but haven"™t heard good things about them. Good Luck......

I have been told by many that the BSA is worse than the tascos and would stay away from it. Normally I would recommend the Leupold, but since it's just a .17, any good quality scope should work.

I'll agree with the above posts. The .17HMR is a fine little round and capable of great accuracy, so don't ruin it by putting a junky scope on it. I'm not saying spend $400 or more on a scope, but go with a quality brand like Leopold, Nikon, Bushnell etc. in 3-9 or 3.5-10X. In the end, you'll better off.

Buy the best scope you can afford.I would stay away from Tasco,BSA and Simmons for starters.Leupold has the Rifleman scopes for under 200.00. I've never tried or used one.Supposedly a decent scope for the money. The rifle can only be as good as the scope will allow.
