Just this past sat I brought a 300 weatherby mag the vangaurd series.... I have a tasco "world class" 3x9x40 scope on it (i know it could use a better one but it is jus for now i guess) and i shoot the rem weatherby mag 180g.
I put 1 box thou it and started the barrel break in. but my ? is what range do you belive is about the max of the rifle and scope? This is just for taget information... not hunting.
The range your set up will shoot is how well you shoot it! Some people can't shoot that caliber 100 yards others can shoot it effectively at 400 and 500 yards.Get to the range and practice

That caliber has been used a lot in 1000 yard compitition shooting. Both as a factory round and as a wildcat necked down to different calibers. The scope, any scope of that power would be the limiting factor at those ranges.
i have a question. why did you buy a 300wby if your only going to shoot paper? the 300 win mag would do about the same thing on paper and it cost less to shoot. just wondering if you had a reason as to why you picked the 300wby. i have always wanted a wby but i just can't find a good use for one.

thanks everyone! i started at 100 yards and it took about a box of rounds before i could even shoot a half ass group. it is alot harder then i thought it would have been. but it is great fun. after 3 more boxes I am shooting good groups at 200 yards and randomly hitting the paper at 300... i need ALOT of practice. anyone have any ideas for what kind of muzzle brake i could go w/ and also brands of bipods and where i could get them online? thanks again...
and killer it is only comes to like $45 a box... not to bad, i only shoot like 1 box a week. I just saw it at the gun shop and loved it. then i did a little reaserch and found out they were good guns. so why not? i might try some hunting w/ it next year if i can shoot consistantly, and with practice i am confident.
glad your having fun. I guess what killer is asking is for a target gun, the weatheryby is kinda a bad choice. Has alot of freebore.
Lots of effective muzzlebreaks out there. Effective ones might be KDF, or vais, magnabreak, or even gentrysa. But then again, I don't have any on my guns.
Why do you need a muzzlebreak? I've got a .300 Weatherby and I've never felt a muzzlebreak was needed. I think the increased muzzle blast a muzzlebreak creates outweighs any reduced recoil benefit. That's just my opinion. Take that money and apply it to a better scope. I've got a Zeiss Conquest on mine and couldn't be happier.
I also have a 300 Weatherby and don't use a brake. However, after a box of shells, the recoil is noticable and some might not enjoy it. Mine is a Vanguard and it came with a thin, solid rubber butt plate. I replaced that with a Kick-Eez recoil pad and it's quite comfortable to shoot now. My rifle is very loud and I wouldn't brake it. I wouldn't want that kind of blast when the reoil is already tolerable. I hunt deer and bear with mine so I really don't shoot more than 100 yards anyway. Why a 300 Wby then? I just always wanted one. I hand load so the price of ammo isn't a big deal. I bought brass in bulk so I just go through powder faster. Have fun with that rifle and YES, replace the scope. That rifle has too much potential for a mediocre scope.
congrats on the magnum!!!Get a good recoil pad first before you try a brake. if you still need more get the brake, and some good hearing protection.also, if you decide on a hunting trip you now have enough rifle for anything in north america
