I Like older marlins that didnt have the cross bolt safety. That cross bolt safety is for weenies and makes the gun look like sh!t. I heard there was a kit you could get that replaces the cross bolt saftey with a saddle ring but I cant find those anywhere.

i have a 336 that belonged to my grandfather i know its old but i dont know how old. I dont use it because its a family herlum type of thing and i dont want to abuse it. I have looked in gun books at the diffrent models of 336's and never seen my model. It is a 336 R.C. i havent seen that code before. Anyone know what the RC designation is for?

I think the RC stands for Regular Carbine.

Biscuit Jake is correct. The designation was to distinguish it from the 2/3 magazine version, "SC" (for Sporting Carbine).

If you go over to www.marlinowners.com, they'll be able to give you a lot of information about your rifle.

i am pretty sure the first two numbers of the serial # is the year it was made. mine was made in 72 i think and it does have the saddle ring.

if thats the case mine was made in 05, I think not I bought it from walmart 10 years ago my guess is it was manufactured between 1990 and 1995.

For recently-made rifles, if you take the first two digits of the serial number and subtract from the 100, you'll get the year of manufacture.

HighDesertWolf's rifle would be made in 1995, just as he expected.

aimatdeer, does your rifle have a pistol-grip stock or a straight stock?
