Over on The High Road, a lot of people badmouth the Llama-made Firestorm pistols (including the Government .45). The Argentinian Bersas are pretty good pistols, but the Spanish ones are regularly trashed.

Here's an example: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthrea...ight=firestorm

And another, about Llamas: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthrea...ighlight=llama

My personal experience has been pretty good; I have an older Llama .45 (full-size), and it's been a great pistol.

I don't have any experience with the Firestorms, but I do have a chance to buy one from a guy that I work with. His is the two-tone compact model and I was wondering what they're worth? He's asking $275, but I'm sure that he wouldn't turn down 250. What do ya a think? Thanx in advance.

My dealer will sell me any model I want for 250 dollars new after taxes will be around 270 or so , The two tone models are 10 dollars more. Moose I will look at those links, My father says to get one i wont be dissapointed he's owned several LLama pistols over the years and I remember when i was younger shooting a Micromax 380 it seemed to be well made. I am pretty sold on the firestorm 1911 I know i will buy one but just like to hear what others have to say. the only thing that will stop me from buying it is, if my dealer happens to locate a Springfield Mil-spec GI 1911-A1 which is what I really want but they are back oredered for months.

Oh i forgot to post in regards to T/C's reply, $275 is about the average price for a new one in matte finish and $285 for a two tone. The MSRP is $331 for matte finish and $341 for the two tone. I see used ones forsale all the time in gunstores and on www.gunbroker.com and www.gunsamerica.com for a price ranging between $200 and $225. Im my opinion your colleague would be dumb to pass up 250, I would try to talk him down a little more though. even at 250 hes makin out like a bandit for used one. Id say just buy a new one after paying for a transfer through a FFL dealer you would have spent the same as you would have just buying a new one.

T/C, to be honest, I don't think I'd pay the $250. $225, yeah--but I personally don't have a preference for the two-tone, so I wouldn't pay extra for it.

Do you know why he's selling it? Is he tossing in any extra magazines or anything?

Speaking of magazines, there's a nasty rumor about the Llama/Firestorms and magazine compatability. I'd heard for years that standard 1911 mags won't work in Llamas--but they will. Llama mags, though, will *not* work in standard 1911's--the Llama mags are a tad wider than standard. This is true for both the 7-shot and 6-shot Commander mags.

Some of the 1911 after-market mags may take a little filing, because the magazine catch is a little different by about .01", but once fixed, they work perfectly. I'm speaking from personal experience.

Thanks wolf and moose for the info. The reason he's selling it is, I let him shoot my Kimbers.lol I was not interested in keeping it, just thought if it was a good buy, I might try to turn a buck. I am pretty familiar with other Llama's, just not the Firestorms. Thanks again, I appreciate it.

for a few bucks more, I would order an Argentine Systema. Its a very close clone to the Colt 1911, and is just as well made, unlike taking your chances with a Llamas or other craptacular clones.
