what is the colt like for a varmint gun and as well what is the kick like on it as well

I have a Marlin Cowboy in 45colt and I don't think it would make a very good varmint rifle even with my hot handloads. It's real good for 100yrds.or a little more.
As far kick, it is very light in my rifle. It has the 24 octagon barrel so it is a little heavier than some of the others.
