Slip on recoil pads?

I was lookin at recoil pads at Cabelas.com and their was a screw-on pad and slip-on. Do slip-ons work as well? Also the slip-on it has sizes so how could I tell what sizes my gun is? Thanks

Slip-ons work almost as well as screw ons/grind to fit recoil pads. The advantage to a slip on is you can put it on another rifle/shotgun easily. As far as size, measure the butt of the gun from top to bottom.

slip on pads will do the same job as the normal recoil pads , but the question is does the gun still fit you? If you need added length a lip on pad just might be for you but otherwise you're better off with a recoil pad that is fitted to your shotgun that is cut to the proper length for you.

Nate, I can't remember if you bought a full size 870 or youth.
Slip-ons are cheaper and you get the added benifit of moving it to another gun when you like.
But, they add to your length of pull. You said that you are big for your age. Well then that might not be a problem for you.
I use a slip on pad on all my shotguns. I prefer the extra length of pull it adds.
Remember that you probably will not feel as much recoil when you are blasting away at ducks.
I swear by a good recoil pad. It makes the hunt and pratice more enjoyable.
By the way, how do you like your 870? How is the recoil?????????

BENOUTHUNTIN-I like it its really fun to shoot. The recoil isn't bad but my arm does get pretty sore so im tryin to reduce it alittle

Opening day of duck season always leaves me with a sore and bruised shoulder.

I have always like the addition of the slip on kind. I have long arms, so I need a long length of pull. Most of the firearms that I have are collectible, so I don't want to drill into the stock either.

I use a slip on with an extra inch of closed cell foam cut to the profile of the stock inside it. It makes it just an inch longer, gives me more recoil absorbtion and fits my arm length well. When I put it on any Russian gun I have to put 2 of my spacers inside it, they must all have very short arms!

In any case, you can also cut 1/2 of the rubber skirt off of the slip on ones. It is too much interferes with my cheek weld and isn't needed to keep the pad on the butt.
