I'd love to have an Encore in 7mm08 for deer. 7mm08 is a great caliber, doesnt kick much, and is as accurate as any other. Hope this helps,

Timba

I whole heartedly agree with the 7mm-08 barrel.

Bought the 7mm-08 Encore in 2002 to use as a handgun for deer hunting in Southern New York where we are limited to pistol, shotgun slugs or muzzleloaders. Have found this to be a very accurate and powerful caliber for either whitetail or blackbear and has expanded my range from approximately 100-125 yards with shotgun to 200+ yards with the Encore.

Ammo available if you do not reload, recoil not bad and slings available to carry. I do recommend shooting sticks and a scope to allow utilization of this gun's ability to reach out to the above distances.

Go for it!!

Thanks,I looked at a 260, 7mm08 & a 308. I know they are all good in a rifle. I don't have a 7mm, so the 7mm08 just might be the one. cd

One more question, what length barrel. I saw 14" & 16". Would the 14" be a good pick.

The 250 Savage is another excellent round for the Encore for deer huntin. I would use the longer of the barrels available. All the rifle calibers need all the barrel they can get. The rifle calibers are not very efficient with short barrel. Comparably that is. Good hunting

I'd go with either the 7-08 or 308. Both of them seem to shoot better out of the Encore pistol than the 260. The 7-08 is a great round, but I'm a big fan of the 308 and with the heavier bullets available for it, I went with the 308. Like oldhunter said, a solid rest, a good scope and lots of practice will make it an honest 250yd deer gun. As for barrel length, the longer the better. My Encore pistol barrels are 15". CD, where did you see Encore barrels offered in 14" and 16"? I'm not trying to step on your toes, but was just wondering. The Contender barrels are offered in those lengths, but the factory Encore barrels should be in 12 or 15 inch unless its a custom barrel. Whichever caliber you get, I can promise you'll love hunting with the Encore pistol!! Just be careful, they are very addictive.lol Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I would get a 15" 7-08 barrel.

what one guy told me to look at ?? I did see the Thompson barrels are 14". I think I'll look for a 7mm08 over the summer. Thanks for the help.
