I should pick up my Savage 223 12bvss this saturday, mount a Bushnell 4200 elite 8-32 40mm scope and try out with some winchester silver tip supreme 55 gr . Now is the proof time I will see how accurate this gun is out of the Box.
and I will let you know. 55 gr should be good for this 1-9 twist rate. Tell you later. I hope I can get good results like I had with My Marlin 17 hmr. shot over 300 5 shot groups at 100 yds. 1.06 " avg . This is the gun and cartridge that got be back into shooting after over 35 yrs. I will start reloading for the first time. But for now it will first shoot some factory ammo. If weather permits I will be shooting my first 223 on sat. Hope to eventually take it to a Prairie dog town and introduce my self to something I always dreamed of doing long distance varmit hunting. I will keep you posted on the acuracy of this combination.
Well...how was the combo...got my 4200 8x32 ordered...the new 2004 version...am shopping for the 12bvss now...went to a gun show this weekend and they were wanted $629...think I can get a better deal at the Denver show this weekend. Let me know how it is working...mine will be a coyote shooter...and the occasional dog.
Did you get the 2003 or newer version with the Accu-Trigger? If you did you should be very happy with that gun. Savage has got the other manufacturers by their proverbial "balls" with that trigger system. The best production trigger on the market for any rifle under $1,000.
