Newer Remington 7600 review
#2
My dads was bought new in 1994, and it's a great shooting gun. A .30-06. He's shot a pile of deer with it, all with core lokt 180gr.
Don't know about the new ones. But that rifle is a good one.

The older ones were actually the 760 carbines and some had a straight stock not made for a scope. If you wanted to have a "Benoit" style big woods gun with peep sights then retrofitting the 7600 with a straight stock will make the gun similar to the old 760. I fitted mine with a matching Remington shotgun stock and it turned out great. The gun shoots great and without a scope is a joy to carry while hunting the rugged mountains of northern VT and New Hampshire.

How is the accuracy and reliability on these newer ones? I handled one at gander mountain and they felt "solid" but not as solid as the older ones. But the older ones I've shot and handled had a wood stock and the 30-06 carbine I handled had a synthetic stock on it.
