Default Nikon Customer Service

As some of you may know, I like Nikon scopes. I think dollar for dollar, they are as good as scope there is on the market. In the past 6 years since I have been using Nikons heavily, almost exclusively, I have only had one problem with one scope. A Buckmaster 3-9x50, that had a broken crosshair.

Well to get to the meat of the subject, what bothers and upsets me more than the broken crosshair in the scope, is the fact that Nikon has had my scope for 2 months now and nothing. I have not gotten it back and still no word as to when I will get it back. Maybe there is something to Leupold after all, at least in the customer service area. It appears that that is no competition in the area of customer service, as Nikon' s appears to non-existent.

Thanks for confirming something for me...I have owned Nikons also and never had a problem with a one but had heard from time to time including one dealer that their service is a " Black Hole" ....

I' ve got a few Nikon' s too, but I' ll buy more Leupold' s if the need arises. One thing I can' t take is bad customer support.

One thing for certain, nobody takes care of their customers like Leupold. I sent a Vari-X II 4x12 back to them last winter to have a target elevation knob and a Vari-X III click style windage adjustment installed. That scope traveled probably close to 3000 miles round trip to Oregon and back to Missouri with the modifications done in about 2 weeks. I was very impressed with their service. Leupolds are the only scopes I have bought for 10 years or so. I think Leupolds are worth the extra money, if not just for their products but also for their excellent warranty and service.

Sorry for your situation. I have heard this about nikon and one reason why I have never bought a nikon optic. I think they seem like nice glass but if you do have a problem(and they all can/do) then CS is very important.

Hope you get her back soon.

I have a Nikon 3-9x40 and I think it' s a great scope for the price. Very bright and clear. However, probably will be my last Nikon purchase as they don' t have the CS they should. Had to send in some binos for a friend and they charged nearly as much to fix them as the binos cost! The only problem was they got out of alignment. To me that should be fixed for free like Leupold or the other companys would do.

I had a buckmaster 3x9x40 last year and the cross hairs broke,I took it back to where I had got it and he sent it back and I got a new scope one week later.I guess I just got lucky,It was the only time I had to send one back.
Had to send a older model Lepould back this spring because it quit tracking they sent back a letter that said they had reworked it completely.I got it back in 2 weeks.Works good now.
This is just my experience with both.

Herman, you live in NC like I do if you send it to Leupold regular ground it takes all of 5 days to get there anyway...that means it was turned around the same day it got there if it took 2 weeks for you to get it back...nowadays try getting that level of service...especially when you sell the number of scopes and the number of models they do and the number of people that abuse their warranty by sending in their scopes every time their gun doesn' t shoot 1/2" groups because of the scope.

That is absolutely appalling. I' ve owned several Nikon scopes and love them. Even more than the Vari-XIII I had. But before I buy another one, I' ll email them reference this thread and make sure they know that if they continue with that kind of support that my money will go elsewhere!

Finally got my scope back on November 18th. They replaced it with a new one. Don't see why it took almost 3 months to send my a new scope. Anway got it placed back on my 6.5x284 Mauser and shoots great. The clearity of the scope is better than the 3-9 Leupold I took off my 6.5x284, plus the light gathering excellent.
