Default Weatherby Mark V ultralight vs Kimber 8400

Hey everyone, Im brand new to the forums...FIRST POST! I would like to get the opinions of anyone who has experience with preferably both rifles. I personally only have shot/hunted with the Kimber of the two. Sort of. I currently have an 84L in 25-06. Again, only experience is with the Kimber and I love it. The rifle is a real tac triver!! But have always had a thing for the Mark Vs. The caliber I am getting is 300 WM. Alright...what do you think?

300 win mag in a 6.75lbs or even lighter in the kimber doesn't sound very fun at all.

I have the ULW in .243win and like it, very light, 5.75lbs.

which may be a consideration in 30-06, although if you want to jump to magnum performance, perhaps the 300wsm in a kimber? or sako a7? or even sako 85?

btw in the kimber would you get the montana? or one of the wood versions? which would add some weight.

actually the wby ulw in 300win.mag would be pretty nice, just a bit light I think, but the #2 barrel at 24" would be nicer than the #1 contour, and/or the other calibers at 26". I do like the shorter bolt lift, ie 60degrees vs. 90degrees.

You may consider the 7mm rem.mag, 300wsm, 30-06

btw the weatherby ULW has a steel receiver and a stainless barrel, like the accumark, the action/receiver isn't stainless, which makes you say why bother with stainless, perhaps get a wby synthetic? or a fibermark?

I totally agree, it wont be fun to sight in. But as far as hunting goes you don't notice recoil when your crosshairs are on whatever game you have been tracking all day, or all week, or all off season. Its the 8400 Classic so yes it adds a little weight. Its 7 1/4. Actually quite a bit heavier than the Mark V. Im more questioning if anyone thinks either will perform better than the other. If I was going to get a heavier rifle, no question I would go accumark. That gun just calls to me .

it definitely has a nice stock, pretty to look at, and high quality. overall a very sharp looking rifle.

I was very interested in getting a kimber in a sheep/mtn style rifle, and I kept finding poor reviews online. Seemed like pretty unanimously older kimbers were awesome, but new ones lots of problems/accuracy issues. I believe weatherby guarantees 1.5MOA, Kimber I believe does not have a guarantee, or I remember reading a review where kimber would not replace a rifle.

btw if you're looking at the wood versions of kimber, checkout winchester's featherweight stainless, or just featherweight, I think it may be near the 7lbs area, and I've only heard great things about the new winchesters. pretty certain I'll be getting a 375 when they come out with the version I want. or the all weather s/s version.

True..Kimber does not offer a accuracy guarantee. At least on their "field guns". They give 1/2" guarantee on the tactical stuff.

As far as their customer service goes. OUTSTANDING in my experience. Example: when I got the rifle it shot okay, between 1-1.5" groups. Which isn't bad but I expected more out the gun for the price and the quality of material they advertised. I emailed them just asking if there was anything they would do for me...within an hour or so I had already been contacted by a rep and sent a pre paid ups shipping. And within 3 weeks I had my rifle back supplied with 2 targets and ammunition data. Included was a list of work performed. They tweaked the bolt body and said they worked on the action and replaced the barrel. The targets they sent had a 120gr 3 shot group at .382 and a 85gr 3 shot group measuring .664. And that was with factory ammo. So with handloads it pretty much shoots holes through holes!!

I couldn't be more happy with Kimber...but on the other hand I'm sure there are some horror stories out there.

I really like Cooper too, and basically the same price as the weatherby I'll probably take a good look at the excalibur. But for a may caliber they charge an extra 1000!!! So .280 or 30-06 for me lol
