Default Remington 7600 Clip Problem

I just purchased a Remington 7600 and it is difficult to install the clip. Several experienced hunters have also tried to install the clip but they also had difficulty. If you keep trying it will evently go into the gun. My old rifle had a clip and it was very easy to install. Any thoughts? Just new equipment that needs to be worn in or is this a problem with the 7600's.

Something isn't right. The clip should install with no effort.

No problem with mine. I bought a second clip and it was an after market and wasn't made by remmi. No problems with that one either. It could be the clip rather than the gun. Try borrowing one from somebody else or go to a gun shop and ask to try a clip from one of their guns.

This is not an uncommon problem with the Rem. 7400 and Rem. 7600 clips. Usually it is the clip. THe clip is a stamp formed part and not high precision part. I have run across this time after time when I was doing minor gunsmith work years ago. If you can determine a wear spot or edge, and it is a minor defect, usually you can carefully take that down with a fine file or 000 grit paper. If not, a simple and usually successful cure is a second clip. If the new clip does not slip in OK, then you have a bigger issue and I would take the rifle to a Rem. certified service center.

A new rifle, I would call Rem and tell them you need a new clip and if they want the old one, to send a return postage label to get it back. They should make good for it. In mass production, its impossible to have 100% of product be perfect.
